    BAYBURTUN TARİHİ

    İskitlerle komşu Haliplerle ve Haldilerden de söz etmektedir.İleriki tarihlerde
    dahi bu bölgeden ''Halibyaya'' ya da ''Haldiya'' olarak söz
    edilecektir.Halibler demini ilk işleyen uluslardır.Haldi halkı ise adını bir
    Urartu tanrısından alıyordu.
    Perslerin Anadolu daki uzun süren
    egemenliğine İskender son vermiştir.Ancak ne İskender ne de komutanlarından
    biride bu bölgeye ulaşamamıştır. İ.Ö 2.yy Doğu Karadeniz de Pontus Krallığı
    korumuş ve kısa zamanda Roma imp. korkulu rüyası haline gelmiştir.Krallığın
    sınırları Kırım a ve Ege ye kadar uzanmıştı.
    Tarihçelere göre Pontus
    devleti Rumlarla hiç ilişkisi yoktur. Tersine Batıdan gelen Roma imparatoru
    saldırılara karşı Anadolu nun bir savunma hareketidir. Kralları da Midirdat
    (Midridates ) adını taşır ve Pers asıllıdır. Onların egemenliğini altında yerli
    halk eski ilkel yaşantısını sürdürmekteydi.
    Pontus Krallığı egemen
    olduğu bölgelerden vergi yerine daha çok asker alırdı.Bu işi özellikle Karadeniz
    sıradağlarının arkasındaki vadilerde yaşayan topluluklarda uygulardı.Ayrıca
    askeri gücü ve serveti karadan gelecek düşmana karşı savunmak amacıyla
    buralardaki stratejik noktalara bir dizi kaleler yaptırmışlardı. Bayburt kalesi
    de büyük bir olasılıkla ilk kez bu dönemde yapılmış ya da basit olarak bir
    temeli varsa berkitilmiş olmalıdır.

    Karadeniz coğrafi bölgesinin Doğu Karadeniz bölümü sınırları
    içerisinde yer alan Bayburt 41derece doğu boylamı (Meridyen yayı) ile 41 derece
    kuzey enlemi (Paralele dairesi) nin kesiştiği noktanın yaklaşık 2 km kadar
    doğusunda kurulmuş bir yerleşim birimidir.( 40 derece 15 kuzey enlemi -40 derece
